Re: USB microphone with low recording level
What are the real world symptoms of a power mismatch? I know of no modern system less than 48 volts. The other voltages are from way back when there were no common power management chips. That was sorted and suddenly, all those oddball values, 5v 12v, etc. etc, vanished. Many microphones are clear t...

Re: Audicity with Steiber UR-22 MK2
You should start out with the Steinberg Cubase software. If you find something you can't do, then crank up Audacity.
Nobody said you can't have both on your machine, although I would not run both at once. Audacity does not Play Well With Others and can confuse connections and priorities.

We did this soundproofing thing to death a while back and I saved it. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=308510#p308510 You don't need a studio to make a recording. People make good recordings in difficult circumstances all the time, but not on a budget. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix...

Re: How to manage the delay when recording with a DAW
I think I missed a step there. Audacity > Preferences > Recording should have [X] Overdubbing as the only thing selected. If both Audacity and the 2i4 send your voice to your headphones, you'll get both, one late.

http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/samsonGTrackConnections.jpg Scarlet 2i4 Digital audio workstation That's a little grand. The 2i4 is a good USB interface. You should be able to listen to the 2i4 and select it as your "speakers" instead of the computer speakers. Then the 2i4 will sen...

Re: How to manage the delay when recording with a DAW
That link up the post is the Audacity manual entry for overdubbing. There are two latencies. Recording latency is when you adjust Audacity so your new and old tracks overlay perfectly. Since Audacity has an iron grip on both the old and new tracks, it's adjustable. Machine latency is the time it tak...

Re: ART USB Dual Pre digital artifact
I have an earlier H4, not H4n. Nobody is writing the papers about the good quality of the H series external preamps. I didn't think the H2n had a microphone connection. Or if it does, it's an afterthought. I do agree completely about using a non-computer recorder. People get into enormous trouble wi...

Re: ART USB Dual Pre digital artifact
Time for the goal. Nowhere in this posting is the eventual goal mentioned. Buried in the hiss is the other shortcoming of lip microphones. P-popping and "wet mouth noises." In the wild, nobody cares if Piper 202 has mouth distortion when calling the tower for landing as long as most of the...

Re: ART USB Dual Pre digital artifact
OK. Here it is. Set the microphone for Mid/Side and turn the Side volume all the way down. That's a mono voice track. Announce into the rear of the H2n, the side away from the display. They don't tell you how you're supposed to see the volume meters when you do that, but do it in front of a mirror u...

This is a test recording I did with an Olympus 823 Personal Recorder (no longer being sold, unfortunately). http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/ClipMount-PersonalRecorder2.jpg 20150823OlympusPost.wav That's in its performance setup. In Voice Recording setup, it will record conversations anywhere in a...
