Audacity doesn't easily support ASIO.
So if ASIO is burned into your sound services, that's where your audio is going.
A note: Reinstalling Audacity doesn't reset Audacity. The Windows installer has a clicker that tells it to reset Preferences and Settings. Say yes.

I can't imagine how that would affect the audio on your headphones socket. It's a subjunctive problem. Audacity is poking the sound into the place where the headphone service would have been had it been there. But it's not. There is no predicting what the custom Dolby drivers did to this laptop. 7....

Nail the cursor as in CoolEdit and other programs? Not that I know of.
You can simulate that by holding the shift key while you mouse-wheel or pad scrub.
