Re: Mystery : Recorded sound file cant be heard

It is the latest version.

What is the three-digit number of his version? Did you get it from here?

Missing a piece. What's between your guitar and the computer? Live microphone? Soundcard? USB interface?

Re: Recording Level Automatically Compressed - Can't Clip

disable this automatic input gain control / compressor Probably neither one. If you actually try to make a recording that way, you will probably find it's actually clipping. You can get this if you cross Stereo and Mono on certain devices. Try setting up the whole chain for Stereo even if you're tr...

whenever I record audio or music from my computer to Audacity.
We could use some detail there. Are you playing some media on your computer and trying to record it, are you recording YouTube or are you trying to capture game sound? Fill in the hole.

Re: Playback skipping ahead

certain chunks of time that skip ahead. Essentially, the recording is completely out of order.
It's not "essentially." Those two are different. Does it skip around or are there pieces missing?

Re: Horizontal line in Spectrogram view

If this is a live microphone, start a recording and move the microphone. See if, for example, it gets worse near your monitor.

Re: Horizontal line in Spectrogram view

That would be a constant tone or scream at about 16000. If you're old enough you might not even hear it. Back in the analog TV days, some TVs would scream at that tone. It drove dogs nuts. Some lighting systems run, and scream at that rate. Motor systems? What in your environment could be making tha...

Re: I need help with an .xwb file.

Audacity will not Save a sound file. It saves Projects which only open and play in Audacity. To get a sound file at all you have to Export one. Installing the FFMpeg add-on software will allow you to create additional different types of sound. Add the Lame software if you want to make an MP3. Scroll...

Re: Once my voice is recorded and saved...then what?

One more. Even if you do elect to make and send an MP3, your own archive should be in WAV. You can listen to a WAV and make one into anything else.

If you tell Windows to stop hiding filename extensions from you, your WAV files will feature .wav extensions. MyMusic.wav, for example.

Re: Once my voice is recorded and saved...then what?

I understand that a recording is saved as a Wave file. To be clear, Audacity doesn't save sound files at all. To get a sound file, you have to File > Export one. But yes, WAV is the Audacity default. I assume I'll have to convert the Wave format to another format so the recipient can play it. I don...
