Re: Audacity not detecting recording device

Cool. So it's like one of these... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/RCAMiniStereo-650.jpg ...plugged in behind the desktop. both the microphone and line in options under the recording tab on the Windows sound control panel show up as being 'Not plugged in' That's pretty serious. That could mean Wi...

Re: Nextech Headset hum

I've had this headset for years
Which headset might this be? We can't see your machine or environment, so all the detail you give is important.

Windows 10 running on a what? Pretend I want to buy one. Which three-number version of Audacity do you have?

Re: Audacity not detecting recording device

Without question the most common problem is a USB device, Windows and Audacity losing track of each other. When you come back up, please mention the connection process. That can make a big difference.

Re: Audacity not detecting recording device

All that and Audacity gets its sound from Windows, not the sound connection, so look in the Win7 control panels and make sure you can see the connection (you didn't say what it was) and the little sound meters bounce. If you're using a USB interface (I have one machine which works like that), Audaci...

Re: Newbe question: Audio levels are peaking off the chat

If you're used to commercial or broadcast sound, home recording can seem low volume and gutless. Part of this is the loudness wars (I can make my music louder than you), but part is broadcast compression. Broadcasters are required to maintain certain volume standards and there are machines at the tr...

Re: Audacity not detecting recording device

What's the microphone? You left us some fuzzy words there. If you scratch or speak into the microphone, do the sound meter lights on the mixer flash? Can you hear the sound if you plug headphones into the Behringer? Forget Audacity for a minute. Let's get basics down. The 1202 is an analog mixer. Ho...

Re: Problem opening file

This is an Audacity Project. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg You need both parts to open up a song or show. Importing is generally for sound files such as MP3 or WAV. You Open a Project. ...if it's healthy. Open the AUP file in a text editor and see if it's empty. I ex...

Re: Determing File Size Wile in Edit

I don't know of a good way. File-size predictability is one of the things you give up when you elect for compressed files. I would create several different sound files of predictable length and see how they turn out. We can tell you WAV file sizes down to about ten bytes or so, but that falls apart ...

Re: Simultaneously copy track and label.

Select the track by clicking just above MUTE. Hold SHIFT and click in the similar blank place to the left of the label track. Control-C copy, Control-V Paste.

Re: Microphone Only Recording When Software Playthrough Is O

If I had to guess at it, I'd say you weren't recording the microphone. You're recording "Everything on the Computer." That's why the sound only shows up after the microphone has been into the computer and on the way out again. -- When you reinstalled Audacity, it should have asked you in t...
