Re: understanding NoiseGate
I realize I can't answer the question intelligently. He said, swooping abruptly to the left, making me even more convinced we're not solving the actual problem. Nobody ever accused NoiseGate of producing natural, graceful recordings from noisy or damaged presentations. I suspect we're all going to ...

Re: understanding NoiseGate
Noisegate often does precisely what I expect in that it reduces or eliminates heavy breaths, etc. between vocal phrases, but doesn't eliminate all background noise. Sometimes, someone will jump into the middle of a problem with little or no background. Then the forum elves go charging off to solve ...

Re: Nextech Headset hum
The hum is a grounding issue, particularly if you can touch things and make it go away. This is an extreme example (120 Hz in the US). http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/clips/OpenShieldHum.mp3 Are you plugging into the front of the computer? Is it any better if you plug in the back? The desperation met...

Re: hit stop instead of pause
At the time you could have pressed Shift-Record which would have picked up the recording right where it left off. That's Append Record. What you can do now is select the Time Shift Tool (two sideways black arrows) and push the second track later (to the right) until its beginning matches the first t...

Re: Recording both people on Skype - how?
There are ways to cheat. Use headphones on both side (required on most of these recordings) and play to speakers on the table. Put a Personal Recorder in the middle of the table and press record. It will get Skype Voice from the speakers and your voice from you. Juggle the volumes and spacing to mak...

Re: Recording both people on Skype - how?
Sure. It's not a setting. Your microphone is a service of your computer and so it's relatively easy to grab a copy and record it. The Far Side is a service of Skype and Skype doesn't like to share. It's not entirely evil although it seems like that. Skype has to make sure its echo cancellation, proc...

Re: Truncate Silence into an application
I imagine that this is programmable. Anything is programmable. The problem with this and many other of the effects and filters is the variables. Unless you're in a studio environment, your producers are going to have work that varies greatly in volume, quality, and noise. You could have a submissio...
