Re: Mastering an ACX Fail

We're supposed to be reading in a monotone? No. That's my trick. That's why nobody is beating down my door to read for them. Reading with pitch changes is one of the things you can do. Just don't bellow or whisper without taking precautions not to have the recorded volume change too much. You may r...

Re: Experienced User Creating Poor Readings

This is how to install two different Audacity versions. You may not ever run two at the same time.

Re: Multiple Audacity Versions in Windows

I see the user is reluctant to let go of 2.1.1, but why?
That's against the possibility of the upgrade weirdly damaging one or more of their valuable projects.

But we won't have to worry about that any more in v2.2.0, right?

Re: Noise when recording from USB preamp

The DC offset is definitely a hardware problem. You can't directly hear it You can't hear it, but it makes audio editing a complete nightmare. Every edit has a pop or click. It's a land mine. You don't see anything until you step on it. I blew the whistle because I've never heard/seen that many dif...

Re: Can't record at 16-bit

You can change the sample rate with the little window in the lower left. You can change the bit depth by exporting Other File Types, although I don't think you have to worry about the bit depth too much. That slides around. Audacity does everything internally at 32-floating and you can't stop it bec...

Re: Experienced User Creating Poor Readings

A lot of that nit-picky, setting-by-setting goes away with the newer tools.

The only part that's not automated is noise. That's still a little magic.

Re: Noise when recording from USB preamp

People here like the ART USB adapters. I didn't do it that way and the forum link is broken, so maybe someone will pop in and give us the info.

Re: Noise when recording from USB preamp

Goodness! I get three problems and I'm not even breathing hard. Screen Shot 2017-05-10 at 18.09.57.png See the bottom blue line doesn't match "0" on the left scale? That's DC offset. There is something very seriously wrong that allows the battery system to leak into the audio. Once you fix...
