Re: Vocal reduction and isolation
MP3s have cleverly hidden compression distortion which can affect tools, filters, effects and corrections in unpredictable ways. Even if you do get all the corrections to work perfectly, if you make a new MP3 in Audacity, the compression damage could as much as double. There is no opening a 128 qual...

Re: Analogue Turntable Issues
You should tell us in clear terms whether the machine has a real Stereo Line-In. It's usually blue and it's really unusual for a laptop to have one, even more unusual for a mini-laptop. Normal is a single headset connection or Headphone Out and Microphone in. Neither of them will record stereo, even...

Re: Analogue Turntable Issues
Audacity will open whatever Windows provides. Audacity gets the show from Windows, not the mixer or turntable. I'm on fuzzy ground here. Open up the Windows Sound Control panels and make sure the little Windows sound meters jump when you play something. If they don't, then Windows isn't getting the ...

Re: Only recording from external mic on computer
Depending on what it is, it could just be you started things in the wrong order. Plug everything in and make sure everything is working, then start Audacity. You should be able to find a USB "Something" listed in the Audacity Device Toolbar. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/device_toolba...
