Re: Need help interpreting mastering feedback from ACX

Are you using the correction suite with RMS Normalize?

Re: Plugin Conflicts and When to Compress

Missed one. You can measure RMS by yourself with Analyze > Contrast > Measure Selection. Read it and then Close.

Re: Plugin Conflicts and When to Compress

Reading high, loud and robust is most unusual. You are supposed to read slightly low so your reading style is not likely to peak over 100% and cause distortion. Target is peaks about -6dB to -10dB—yellow-ish on the recording meters. Microphone spacing is between fist and shaka http://www.kozco.com/t...

Re: Plugin Conflicts and When to Compress

If RMS Normalize isn't required to do anything, it won't do anything. If you have a loud, rich, robust reading style and, from your comment, your blue wave peaks are high, chances are good RMS Normalize isn't needed. I don't know if it will normalize down as well as up. I assume so. So if you get it...

Re: Need help interpreting mastering feedback from ACX

It is crazy-making to learn all this from the ground up. And then relearn it with the new tools. I perceive it was Diane who was far enough along using the "classic" tools that we boosted her existing process without changing anything very much. We totally don't do it that way any more. T...

Re: Where's the recording volume?

It's not unusual for consumer tape machines to have no play volume control and if you have a USB-connected mixer, the Mac and Audacity volume controls will drop out, too. So yes, the mixer is probably it.

Re: Increase RMS/Volume without undoing previous Amplify

I guess technically, I didn't answer the question. Analyze > Contrast > Measure Selection ...will tell you what the RMS level is now. That will give you a good idea where to set RMS Normalize to get the difference value if that's your goal. And yes, certainly, if your blue wave peaks wander too high...

Re: Increase RMS/Volume without undoing previous Amplify

I think I would do this correction chapter by chapter rather than the whole performance at once, but it's up to you. If you've already leveled and processed your work, it may be OK once over the whole show. Save all original works as WAV protection copies (being obsessive I do it on a thumb drive) i...
