I think flynwill volunteered to turn that into a wiki entry.

Re: no sound but green bars move
I tried a mp3 file and a ogg file neither worked. If you have the sound meters bouncing, we expect Audacity to make noise. Doesn't matter what the sound file is. I moved from a mac mini to my new workstation Workstation? I know how Minis work. I'm on my second one. "Workstation" sounds da...

Re: moving within the recording
Type the new time, any new time, in Selection Start window at the bottom of the Audacity frame. Knowing the Zooming tools is a big deal. You can't do any significant editing and production with the whole show on the timeline at once. Step one is keep the timeline from shifting by itself. That drives...

t's a limitation of the MP3 format. As used on its own. MP3's full family name is MPEG1-Layer3. It's the sound track part of a video format. When used as intended, it takes the timing of the video frames and edits perfectly. We strongly recommend against editing or production directly in MP3 becaus...

I'm sure there's a way to do with with the offset tools, but I would cheat. I would repeatedly magnify my way down to :30 and click on the time. Set a Label there if it's an important place. I was able to piece everything together using the .AU files. So we understand this, you have a working show now, right? All the singers in the right place and all the orchestration in place? Immediately Export the work as a WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit file, or multiple files if the performance is in mul...

Re: no sound but green bars move
If you're playing to a USB speaker system or sound system, make sure you plug it in and get it working correctly before you open Audacity. What's the sound system? What's the sound or music? What's the job? If you have Audacity bouncing sound meters working, then Audacity is throwing the sound to th...

Re: measure delay time
Everybody tries the cancellation trick when they're learning how to microphone. There is one variation that works and is recommended by Elecro-Voice. You sticky-tape two matching microphones (EV, of course) in parallel so their two heads and two connectors are jammed together. You make up a special ...
