Re: Record from cassette deck to MAC

Those are RCA connectors from a prominent manufacturer in days gone by. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/RCAStereoCable-650.jpg You can buy "Y" cables to split one cassette desk into two places (get two, one left and one right. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/RCA-Y-MFF-500.jpg Koz

Re: ACX Mastering levels

One note, you can get wonky noise values if you don't have at least a half-second of clean room tone available, and/or you put a half-second or more of Control-L silence in the piece. The former will give you very high voice values and the latter will give you those negative a million values. Both b...

Re: ACX Mastering levels

(usually around -66db) That's normally about what I get and that's about right. You can get in trouble when it's not gentle hiss sound, but more data errors or other irritating noises. Limiter's trick is the ability to affect one of the three ACX values without seriously affecting the others. You c...

Re: unable to record on audacity

headset is insignia and Insignia makes a TV, a Tablet and television converter. It's rough to tell you how to run your headset if we can't tell what it is. Does it have a plug that looks like this? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/usb-a.jpg Can you point to a web page as If I wanted to buy a headset ...

Re: Noob question: How to deselect tracks?

I click on the gray, unused Audacity area below the bottom or last track. That will de-select everything, too.

Re: unable to record on audacity

My USB headset was made by Logitech. We can only go with what you tell us, so the more the merrier. We can extrapolate from si...

Re: Can't open/import files in Audacity.

Will it open a sound file from your desktop? No file structure, no folders. Just move a sound file to your desktop and open it from there.

Re: Skips near end of long recording

(it's with a high government official in a foreign country) I'm just now putting that together. Are you recording Skype, Chat or other voice sharing program? Audacity doesn't do that so well. We recommend a recording program designed for the service you're using—or, if you're obsessive (holding han...

Re: Skips near end of long recording

It's a bad sign when nobody's posted back by now. You should be on Audacity 2.1.3 from here. http://www.audacityteam.org/download/mac/ And then do the last Mac update. I think they fixed several streaming content and USB problems. Here's a thread we posted featuring "app nap" It's a batter...

Re: ACX Mastering levels

When you adjust the volume (linearly) the ratio* between peak and average (or RMS) remains the same... That's what gives people the tail-chasing thing. You fix the noise and that throws the peaks off..... Post back if Steve's solution didn't work. There's another nasty production problem with proce...
