I begin to see. I'm not the only one that thinks you have noise gate or other processing. Its sound signature is distinctive. The question is where is it coming from?

Open the AUP file in TextEdit, WordPad or whatever your text editing application is. Is the file blank or filled with milions of the same character?

Audacity doesn't apply equalization during speed change. If you play a tape at the wrong speed on the player, equalization damage will be burned into the show and be very difficult to remove.
