Re: Latency?
It's "latencies." There's more than one. The adjustable one is Recording Latency where you set overdubbing so each new voice or instrument overlays the others perfectly. But there's also Machine Latency which is the time your voice takes to go into Audacity and come back out again. You don...

Re: Automating Audacity for audio log creation
Time stamping and automated, periodic saving (really exporting) are surveillance recorder tricks that Audacity can't do.

Which three-number Audacity do you have? I'm using Audacity 2.1.3.
Do you sing? Which instrument do you play? Are you trying to overdub—sing to yourself?

Re: Muffled/low recording for a NEWBIE
It is frustrating that many audacity tutorials use much cheaper and basic mikes with no problems That's too inclusive. You have an inexpensive but far from basic microphone. You have a celebrity which is what's causing all the troubles. If you had a basic microphone, we would have been done days ag...

Re: Muffled/low recording for a NEWBIE
I remember the messages. That's very common when somebody slips a cog and starts recording their laptop microphone instead of their high quality one by accident. That's not what's happening to you. You have a unique microphone system which nobody here can diagnose. That in addition to doing it acros...

Re: Tube Phono Preamplifier Measurement Methods
CBS Laboratories. They were heroically obsessive. They claimed a calibrated, constant-velocity lathe and they published what the rainbow looked like when you held the vinyl disk up to the light. Some engineer died happy. @Spaced 60Hz is rough to hear, that's an organ pedal, and 120 and 180 are very ...

It's possible FLAC doesn't do that. FLAC gets it's smaller files by reversible tricks. I don't think they throw anything away.

Re: Floor microphone stand or desk arm stand?
I use Skype. lol, what an idiot. Not yet. The way the services work, it's perfectly logical that you should be able to make a few simple changes and it all just starts working. The worst thing ever is some podcasters do push a few buttons and everything does work just fine. They are celebrity unico...

Re: Apply Chain - Export Ogg - what OGG quality?
The manual doesn't seem to address that, but my quality values stick from the last time I used them. essentially, it doesn't further downgrade the quality Compressed formats always downgrade the quality. That's why it's so dangerous to edit and do production in MP3. If you open a 128 quality MP3 and...

Re: Muffled/low recording for a NEWBIE
We are struggling with the incomplete/conflicting specs/instructions. And so are the reviewers. WARNING: I no longer recommend using a USB soundcard to connect a microphone to your computer. I think what's flummoxing us is the product suite that's designed to work from any soundcard and microphone ...
