Is there any way I can repair it or otherwise open it? Yes. Put the original name back. You can't change Project names outside of Audacity. You should not try recording directly into the final volume. It's too easy to produce permanent errors like that. This is approximately what your raw reading should look like. You can see those red marks in your timeline with View > Show Clipping. I think the default is OFF.
