Re: Musicians, how do you play/record guitar in Audacity?

- if the headphones output on your laptop has been equipped, like mine, with a combo jack, you may be able to use it as line input, too! Consult your system's manual. We're not excited about combo jacks. Too many users show up on the forum wondering why their live music recording is distorted and i...

Re: Musicians, how do you play/record guitar in Audacity?

You might consider the larger units like Behringer UM2. That one will connect to a rock band microphone like the Shure SM58, higher end broadcast and studio microphones (with Phantom Power) and has Line-In and Instrument-in. But the most important thing it does is provide Zero Latency Monitoring so ...

Re: inversion

Is it your voice? Describe your microphone and how you connected it to the computer.

Re: inversion

Do you still have the original music and voice files? It is highly recommended you export WAV backup copies of the work you're going to use in your show. If you have the two stereo tracks in Audacity (four blue waves) and they play at the same time the way you want, a simple File Export should mix t...

Re: Allow normalizing and amplifying with amplitude

And while we're here. The out-of-the-box Cool Edit had the sound meters the whole length of the bottom of the work window. I don't remember the range they defaulted to, but I wouldn't be shocked to learn it's the same expanded range I use. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/AudacityRecording-650...

Re: Allow normalizing and amplifying with amplitude

Cool Edit split the difference. Their waveforms are in dB, but they use a distorted scale to reflect the most important parts of the show being in the top third. The straight dB range in Audacity reduces that range to a tiny, hard-to-see graphic element. I noticed in graphic samples posted by someon...

Re: All tracks silent after reopening

I edited a song and saved it properly as .aup.
You saved an Audacity Project whose lead manager file is an AUP. You also need the rest of the Project which is a _DATA folder of the same name. Can you find that _DATA folder?

Re: Unable to open AUP (Windows 10)

If the project is a raw capture, particularly mono, then there is the possibility of rescue via the time and date stamps.

Editing scrambles the work inside the _DATA folder. Without the AUP file, there's no way to unscramble it.

Re: Unable to open AUP (Windows 10)

Nope, it's just dead. Empty file.
Let me do that again. Is this an edited Project? Forget the AUP file for a minute.
