Re: recording over a instrumental track
through the 1/4 inch microphone jack Probably 1/8" microphone jack... Audacity does overdubbing just fine, but the backing track has to be in Audacity. Audacity can't reach out and affect external tracks. So you have to have at least one blue wave track to start, and plain, standard playback h...

Re: Help: I am Essing and de-essing challenged
If the sibilance is really excessive you could de-ess twice: I wonder how much of this you can help with a sock over the microphone. Too many makers are producing microphones with piercing sound because it's "more professional." It's not professional to need multiple layers of correction ...

If you do find a way around this, do post back. We don't know of one—and this is a forum, not a help desk. If you have more information, share.

Re: Audacity doesn't open, at all
You could see it in the processes list in the Task Manager, but nothing there. ........... I went to the Audacity site and downloaded the new version, Did you restart the machine in the middle? I don't think Win7 had two different flavors of shutdown, but we're finding problems with programs "...

Re: no sound on playback
i had to import my mp3 file using the raw data option. That means it almost certainly wasn't an MP3 file. Audacity understands those just fine. Install the FFMpeg software and Audacity will recognize many more different sound files. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_and_updating_audacit...

Re: Simulating a poor VOIP call (dropped frames)
I don't know about dropped frames. What happens with natural speech is the system senses a restriction in the data rate and the data processing gets stiffer to try and make up the difference. That's when it sounds like talking into a wine glass or milk jug. Then it sometimes snaps back to normal and...

Re: Signal Clipping at -11?
PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL I think you hit the jackpot. A single, good quality microphone plugged into one half of a stereo interface. This is no win. You're likely either to get low volume and clipping when you record mono, or Left-Only when you record stereo. Unless there is custom software availabl...

Re: Sound Volume Increases as recording continues
Last time somebody complained about this, they were using a Logitech headset on a Windows 10 machine. Apparently, some versions of Logitech headset have automatic voice processing...and you can't stop it. It doesn't increase forever. It goes from ambient sound to what it thinks is normal, natural vo...

That sounds like Chains, Audacity's Batch program.

Re: Normalize is not working
Neither Amplify nor Normalize do what most people want. They're simple, brain-dead tools. You might like Chris's Compressor. Chris wrote it so he could listen to opera in the car. https://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/ I use it to tame somebody else's podcast...
