Re: Error opening sound device.. focusrite scarlett...

Roll back the update? If rolling back works, we need to have a chat with the Audacity Windows elves. Also, Google time. Has anybody else's sound services dropped dead? I need to wait until I get home...

Re: Applying Gain after Limiter?

You can bump up the volume all you want. The only restriction is not to exceed the loudness of the format. The instant the blue waves get too tall or the sound meters go too far up, the digital system "runs out of numbers," and turns the sound into trash. There is some protection not to do...

Re: Two concise, simple questions

Why is it that Audacity isn't considered a "genuine" DAW? Digital Audio Workstations are much broader and comprehensive. Audacity is a simple, one-trick audio editor. People accustomed to larger programs are always shocked to find, for example, that Audacity "burns in" effects a...

Re: Applying Gain after Limiter?

Effect > Limiter is a non-linear effect. It can change loud sounds more than soft ones. Amplify and Normalize (sisters) change everything at once. Everything gets 3dB louder (for example) no matter how loud it starts out. No matter what you do, the blue waves are never allowed to go all the way up a...

Re: Neophyte user

Describe the turntable. Normally, neither the turntable nor the 222 have volume controls.

Re: Error opening sound device.. focusrite scarlett...

This is a reading from the instruction manual. Did you do that? Open the manual to page 6 if you have trouble reading it. Screen Shot 2017-08-30 at 03.23.42.png This little dance can get even wackier. Do the drivers say they work with Windows 10? Windows 10 takes special drivers and software. The dr...

Re: Help With Voice Quality Post-Processing (AT2020)

AT2020 or AT2020USB? I don't hear any mouth clicks. How are you listening? I hear some pretty stiff background noise that I can't easily get rid of. That's concerning because if you're trying to read for audiobooks or anything high quality, heavy noise reduction is not welcome. Background noise can ...

Re: Voicemail

Will this program remove background noise (TV)
TV, radio, conversations or any other constantly changing background noise is permanent. Effect > Noise Reduction works on constant noise like fans, air conditioners or microphone hiss.
