Re: Compare the volume of two audio files

When I did it, I wired my test microphone into a male XLR connector and then plugged it into a small sound mixer. Compare with an actual manufactured microphone. You can get "tonal analysis" by crunching up a newspaper in front of the microphone. Newspaper Test Audacity.wav That's a remark...

Re: Compare the volume of two audio files

so that I know the mic actually works? I'm a little foggy on what you actually did. It should be possible for you to switch between two microphones. Are you recording a good microphone and then both? You can sort what you're recording by scratching the microphones. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audaci...

Re: Compare the volume of two audio files

Select one track or file > Analyze > Contrast > Measure Selection. Write that down. Measure the other one. Contrast will give you the RMS or overall loudness of the performance. That's not the final word because that doesn't take into account tonal differences, but that's the way audiobooks measure ...

Re: using built-in computer mic

That should work.

Make sure Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording > [_]Playthrough is not selected. If it is, your new track may be two versions of the performance jammed over each other. The time difference may give you very serious distortion.

Re: Align a Drum beat track to a click track

Make me a drummer?

We need you perform a song. It's in 7/8 time. Syncopated.

I think that's Punch-In. Select the track so the others aren't affected and go.

Re: Pasting in Room Tone

It's not that bad. There is a tool called Punch In that can customize the inserted sound based on the "hole" or selection you make, plus configuration instructions. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=71556 However. Can I predict the past? You created an Audiobook chapt...

Re: Is it possible to generate a square wave from an audio?

Computers and electroncs work using square waves True, as long as you stick in the digital or mechanical domains. Audacity is an audio editor and works with sound restrictions. Hence the question about the goal. There are crossovers. There is a microphone distortion we called Frying Mosquitoes wher...

Re: Narrator with NT1-A help equalise?

#1. Kill the fan, (it really is noticeable). Yes. You need to do something about that factory running behind you. Effect > Noise Reduction always effects the quality of your voice and is to be avoided if possible. You should be announcing in a quiet, echo-free room. Home producers fail background n...

Re: Is it possible to generate a square wave from an audio?

I would like to generate a square wave Since that's not audio, scientists and engineers are warned that in a race between sound presentation and scientific rigor, sound is going to win. For one example, during "perfect quality" WAV output, a tiny amount of carefully generated noise is add...

Re: The age old crackling problem

I'm open to suggestions for what to try next. Sure. What are you doing? Why are we here? In three forum chapters you never once said what the job was, just that it didn't work. Describe the job and pretend I want to buy the stuff you have. So far all we know is you have two audio interfaces and nei...
