That's what Preferences > Recording > [X] Overdubbing does. Make sure none of the other settings in that panel are checked.

The short answer is you don't. If it didn't work with a simple setup on your machine it will probably never work. Post back if you figure out a way different from techniques in that post.

Can you post a longer stretch? One second isn't enough to tell what it's doing. The forum will allow up to 20 seconds of mono recording.
