Re: Slight echo - maybe a setting? Help with podcast
I'm not a fan of the Logitech headsets. They have a large tube connecting the microphone to the body of the headset leading to leakage and the boom isn't long enough to do a good job in collecting the voice. Did you know there's a Logitech driver for that headset? I suspect they're trying to "f...

Re: Using a hardware gate/compressor vs noise reduction
Also recommended is the On-Stage Stands series of mic stands. They don't have a heavy base and will fold up and hide behind an ironing board in the broom closet. As usual, I took a picture and can't find it..... Here it is from another post. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=312800#p3128...

Re: Using a hardware gate/compressor vs noise reduction
kind of amazing it is even possible Yes, you're the poster child for how not to record your voice. Forget the computer for a minute. Regard the heavy blanket on the table. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MBP_StarbucksStudioShoot-500w.jpg My computers all vent out the back and the blanket will go...

Re: I received an aup file and cannot open it
what tools? Projects only open in Audacity. You will also require the Audacity application which is available here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/ This whole thing would be a lot easier if you got them to File > Export a WAV (Microsoft) sound file and send you that. There are many w...

Re: Unable to open .aup files
The original names are burned into the AUP file. Open the AUP files in a text editor (NotePad, TextEdit. Don't save anything) and read the semi-English XML programming. Look for a listing called projname=". That's the original name of the Project. Third line down, about two-thirds from the left...

Re: 'Export selected audio' is greyed out
If you don't select anything, does straight, plain File > Export work?

Re: Noise Finder?
No, because noise in that instance runs three minutes of a three minute show. Noise Reduction doesn't pick and choose where the noise is. The old Noise Removal used to do that. It would give the performer annoying Noise Pumping. One of the reasons it's not around any more. The only other way I know ...

Re: Using a hardware gate/compressor vs noise reduction
Yes, computer fan noise is exactly what Noise Reduction does well. A background sound that doesn't change. There is a correction suite for people reading for AudioBooks. It will achieve ACX AudioBook compliance repeatedly without a compressor. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=9...

Re: Stereo Recording failure
Look up in the Device Toolbar and see if the recording side (microphone symbol) is set for stereo. Screen Shot 2017-10-23 at 5.04.43 PM.png Another possibility is Windows is set for mono instead of stereo. Audacity gets its sound from Windows, not the turntable. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tu...

Re: Unable to open .aup files
I save them in Audacity as “aup” files. No, you didn't. You saved them as Audacity Projects. This is a Project. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg The AUP file is list of information how Audacity should deal with all the stuff in the _DATA folder of the same name. The AU...
