Re: Advice for this song?
to learn how to use the different effects in Audacity. I just don't like leaving things that I know can have some finishing touches on them. There is no finished. You didn't start out to do anything. "I want to remix an existing current song to make it sound like a 1956 45 RPM record." We...

I'm with you. You have impossible symptoms. I should go back and read through that again. The only way you can get a clean playback is use non-wired speakers?
Nowhere did anybody write you can't have two problems.
There is no condition a good engineer can't make worse.

Re: Need to recover project, all files orphaned?
has been much discussed by Team members (including yourself at times) I didn't discuss it. I just complained about it. I'm not a developer. I'm modeling the Lowly User. All those tasks are difficult and the goals are important, but to back out to 10,000 feet for a second, the goal of Audacity is to...

Re: Left/Right - Good when editing, Bad on output
help me to realize it wasn't me. That's why I recorded that piece. Basic troubleshooting. Split the system in half and see which half breaks. The original reason for that test clip was to test for accidental wires reversed in sound systems. The fourth segment, "out of phase" should sound ...

Re: Digital to CASSETTE ANALOG , Back To Digital.
But even so to me that kind of degrades the quality of it. The Ampex machines produced distortion, but they got lucky in the distortion sounded OK. At that time, they would have killed to be able to get a bit-perfect transfers that I can do now on my oak desk with a Starbucks in one hand. Also see:...

Re: Digital to CASSETTE ANALOG , Back To Digital.
Would I really being wasting my time doing this ? Yes, but probably not the reason you think. That works if you go back and forth with a large Ampex multi-channel reel-to reel machine where you pick up the head optimization, transfer characteristics and speed equalization in your sound. With the ap...

When you push the sliders to the left and right extremes, does the little action graphic say "100%?"
The two export file types you gave as illustration are both compressed filetypes and "mess with the sound." Does it do that if you Export WAV (Microsoft).

Re: Left/Right - Good when editing, Bad on output
Drag-select a portion of the "dead" track and Analyze > Contrast > Measure Selection. When I do that, I get background noise in the -85dB range. Practically zero. That's what you should get. I expect it to work. Macs don't naturally apply effects and filters to playback in real time, but a...
