Re: RMS Normalizing

perhaps you were becoming enthralled in the drama, which is a good thing from a 'performance' point of view, but not so good from a recording point of view. This is where zero latency monitoring and a good pair of sealed headphones comes in. You're much less likely to have wide volume swings when y...

Re: fixing my mistakes

they find more errors in my new recordings but I fix the old ones It's not the easy, fluffy job many people think it is. You can post up to twenty seconds of mono (one blue wave) work on the forum. Describe how you're recording your voice. It's not unusual for the computer's built-in corrections an...

Re: Basic help

a simple task It's not a simple task. You can do it live with a separate music player, a sound mixer with microphone and Audacity to record the mix. A very serious downside of live mixing is the inability to make a mistake. Once you fluff the production, it's tons of work to fix it. The broadcast p...

Re: fixing my mistakes

Very few people can get a word to slide in gracefully. Re-record the sentence or segment of narration that has natural breaks so the difference won't be as obvious. We can't tell much from two seconds, but it sounds like you changed the face/microphone distance. That's rough to manage in post produc...

Re: saving 16-bit WAV results in binary difference

Remember, tuning dithering off is only valid if you make no changes while the work is in Audacity. The first effect, filter or volume change is going to put you into the possible damage camp. If all you're doing is listening, opening, closing, measuring, cutting, copying and pasting, You're pretty m...

Re: saving 16-bit WAV results in binary difference

That's correct. Audacity works internally at 32-bit floating in order to prevent damage when an effect or filter accidentally forces sound to "overload." 32-floating doesn't overload and it's just necessary to reduce the volume out of overload to recover the production. The AudioBook Maste...

Re: QuickTime Services???

I escalated the task to a larger, stereo recorder which produces plain, ordinary sound files. The recorder gracefully produced a numerical series of 2GB WAV files of the extended show which play everywhere. I have no idea why it's not playing on your current system/OS version of QT player. No, but I...

Re: Error message

I think using DropBox as a production drive is not a good idea. They would like you to think you can gracefully and transparently switch between DropBox and your local drives, but you can't. There are rules, not the least of which being internet switching, rerouting, negotiating and delays, all prob...

Re: Help with microphone level please

I understand your goal is record an audiobook in perfect condition, publish, make a ton of money and move to a cottage on cote d'azur. But. It's terrifically good to know how your equipment works. Intentionally cause an overload. Slowly get louder and louder and get closer to the microphone until bo...
