Re: Always 8ms silence 3.666s into recording
Audacity is something of a slave to what the computer is doing. Audacity doesn't talk directly to the device or service. The down side of this is your show gets filtered through all the existing drivers, plugins and services. What are you recording? What's running at the same time as your recording?...

Re: Constant static/line noise
You should do that anyway. There are some noises that leave fingerprints and are easy to identify.I was going to attach a sample of the noise

Re: Panning does not work
Describe your sound system. Does it do that when you plug in headphones? If I assign 1 mono track to the left channel, it's still in the middle!

It's a nasty surprise. Windows 10 is not a Windows upgrade. It's a new OS and software has to be written or certified for it. Some software happens to accidentally work most of the time, but those can be time bombs.

Re: How to smooth waves
Let us know how it comes out. Most "machine voices" happen when the machine either puts the wrong tonal inflection in the voice, or leaves too many out. Both are red flags to your ears and terrifically hard to fix. I very recently sat through a "news broadcast" voiced by a machin...

Re: Get Rid of Non-Speaking Time?
If the machine noises significantly change over the course of the show, you're dead. Effect > Noise Reduction only works on noises that don't change.

Re: Get Rid of Non-Speaking Time?
Do the remaining voices have to be theatrically perfect? Can they sound like a bad cellphone because you're going to transcribe the work later? Assuming the machine noise doesn't change over the course of the show, you can use Effect > Noise Reduction at a very high reduction number (24dB). This sho...

Re: Can I Isolate Matching Audio Between 2 Clips?
You are bucking a lesser known problem as well. No producer I ever met will produce a vocal without "fine tuning" the original backing track a bit. It's a medical condition affecting all producers called the DiQuithitt Effect from its discoverer Simon DiQuithitt. Yet another reason they're...

Re: Can I Isolate Matching Audio Between 2 Clips?
I'm using FLAC files for both. They're FLAC when you got them, but FLAC is not a widely used format. Where did they come from? You can totally try it yourself. Open both songs one above the other. Audacity will try to play them at the same time (and get really loud). Select the bottom track by clic...
