Re: Loud obnoxious constant beep during playback

It sounds like these could be sisters. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/clips/USBMicrophoneWhineClip.mp3 Is it a USB microphone? Can you try a fresh USB cable? If that's it, that's the digital signals in the USB cable leaking into the battery system which runs the super sensitive sound element in...

Re: noise reduction OK button inactive

Room echoes are the performer's voice bouncing from the walls and arriving at the microphone slightly late. You are, in effect, asking Audacity to remove the voice from itself.

Echoes and reverb are deadly.

Re: Cannot open .aup files

The AUP file is a text file with production instructions in it. Open it in a text editor (don't save anything) and read it.

Does it look like that or does it look like your other AUP files—the ones that work?

News of the World_data @Filmscape How did you search for the News of the World_data folder? @everyone I'm not the biggest fan of Mac Spotlight Search. I know there are ways of making text-only Terminal do a search. Someone with Linux talents can comment. What can cause a _data folder to vanish that...

Re: Producing first audiobook, noise levels and consistency.

shouldn't be bad enough to scare the horses to other people! Your client and ACX count. Others, not so much. It's up to the client to judge whether the book is going to be a run-away success. ACX wants something they can sell to everybody on earth. opinion seems divided on the subject of how much [...

Re: Producing first audiobook, noise levels and consistency.

this by no means guarantees it will be okayed by ACX when it comes down to it. No, it doesn't. Audacity ACX-Check is a simulation of the tools used by ACX on your submission and as we frequently insist, that's only the first step in submission acceptance. That's the automated process that gets you ...

Re: Headphones Don't Work

They are Bose and are wired. What's supposed to happen is you plug them in to the machine and the machine, a split second later, senses their presence and switches the sound over to them and the speakers off. I can't think of a condition where that would only fail on Audacity. What do your preferen...

The top half of that explains in the longest and most detailed way possible that you don't have the FFMpeg plugin. Brief Project notes: This is one complete project. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg They have to be in the same folder or location, they have to be na...

There are more devious problems possible. Do you use Skype/Zoom or other chat application? They're famous for taking over your sound channels and not telling you.

Clean restart Windows. Shift+Shutdown > Wait > Start and don't let anything else start.

Re: Volume Peaking at 0.5/-0.5 Instead Of 1/-1

If you capture in "Stereo", the UM2 turns into a two-channel interface with the analog microphone on the left and the analog instrument (guitar, for example) connection on the right. If you capture in Mono, it produces a single-channel microphone capture and drops the instrument. That's th...
