Re: RMS Normalize
I had never made that connection. It's possible to create special purpose sound files and other work for unusual jobs, but keep your eye surgically on the goal. If you ever expect anybody outside of your cohort to play the files, it's best if they're in a common format. Time offsets can create prob...

Re: How do I store my USB Turntable’s exact output on my PC?
turntable with internal AtoD converter That's the first problem, right there. The turntable has preamplification, RIAA compensation and then only the USB sampling. So you're going through quite a bit of processing before the sound even leaves the turntable. There's a trick you can do with Audacity....

Re: Distortion when recording from vinyl
Just a note. None of the waveforms ever gets above 0.5. That's a red flag under other circumstances. Did you do that just for display purposes and the waves naturally overload at or close to 1.0 (0dB)? Yes, the illustration I saw says the adjustment is "Line Input Gain." No-one would be sh...

Re: LOSING MY MIND-hiss when talking
And, as above, if that's the case, defeating the gate will not make the noise go away. It will probably leave the noise there all the time (which may be less of a problem than the pulsing).it could be the settings on a noise-gate built-in to your Yamaha mixer.

Re: Adjusting Recording Volume
As above, a vinyl pop or click is not going to change to your ear if it's distorted or not. You only get in trouble if actual music does that. So this may be a non-issue.

Re: LOSING MY MIND-hiss when talking
It's possible that's Windows sound processing trying to "help you." Auto Noise Reduction can be one of the tools. You don't have these specific problems, but this is where to find the Windows settings to turn it all off. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html...

Re: Recording Issues
It's not. I can't make it do it again.I only did this once, so I'm going back to make sure it's repeatable.
Have you noticed any condition that makes the Missing Stop Key more likely? I did it with simple, short sound clips, so it's possible to do multiple passes until I hit something.

Re: Error while opening sound device when trying to record
Audacity can return that error if either your recording service or your playback service is in trouble. Were you following this? http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer.html Audacity 2.0.5 is pretty old. One of the other elves may ask you to upgrade to 2.2...

Re: What setting/tool to achieve acceptable RMS level for AD
I'm leap-frogging over some of that. If you have a problem you can't dig yourself out of, post a sample of your reading on the forum. You can use this handy format: http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html Or you can post a bit of what you already have. It should be in WAV (Mic...

Re: What setting/tool to achieve acceptable RMS level for AD
Is it possible you mean ACX? We designed special tools and processes that make it relatively convenient to read for audiobooks. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=96103 Read through the whole thing. It's a mini-tutorial on how to record your voice. Also fair warning, you should n...
