Re: recording video using audacity

Is it possible to record youtube video using audacity?
No.

If you already have a video, Audacity might be able to open the sound part. Even that has its limits. You can edit the sound and produce a stand-alone track, but you need a video editor to put it back in with the picture.

Re: Amplification and extreme effects undone on export

Maybe we're the only ones hearing smashed loud and dense performance? Are you trying to make up for something wrong in your playback system? Audacity sound files have a top end in the outside world. Louder than that, the distortion goes nuts, and as a respected production engineer once said, "D...

Audacity has "Sound Activated Recording."

Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording:

De-select that.

You are going to shine projector lights onto it during the performance, right? Play it in a dark room with white walls.

Re: Changing frequencies of a song to unheard frequencies

is there any way to make this song still produce these beautiful ripples, without the song being heard? I can picture exactly what you want to do, but I can't picture a way of making it silent. You're pumping enough audio energy into a pan of water to move it. That's rough to hide. I guess you can ...

Re: mono recording sounds terrible, stereo sounds good

I can easily record in stereo, then convert to mono later. By either splitting, flipping one side over (Effect > Invert) and adding; or deleting one side, right? As you found, you can't simply jam Left and Right together. That kind of microphone is desirable in long cable runs. Done with a good XLR...

Re: How do I record what's playing on the Mac?

You could buy the music in iTunes.

Macs don't have any natural ability to record streaming audio, so you're stuck with third party utilities.

Post back how it goes. I use SoundFLower which is no longer supported.
