Re: Audacity records nothing when screen locks (records sile

As a fuzzy but general rule, you should never change anything during a recording. That's just begging loudly for trouble. Disable the screen lock and run the Surface on shore power rather than batteries (if you can). If you do that, make sure the shore power (wall power adapter) is not adding noise ...

Perfectly valid pathway.

There are tricks where you record special effects by feeding the UCA-202 output back into its input.

Re: Off and running, but what audio format to save in?

Use the drop-down menu on the left of the track Split Stereo to Mono. [X] Delete the dead track. A Mono sound track will play audio to both left and right speakers and takes half the digital space as two-track mono which is what you asked for. You will never get "stereo" with, for example,...

Re: Audacity records nothing when screen locks (records sile

Nobody would ever accuse Windows and Macs of doing things the same way. My Mac is perfectly happy recording off-air TV shows while the screen is dark. My guess is the screen lock on the Surface interrupts the sound pathway. I can hear it from the onboard headphone jack of the UCA202. Just because th...

Re: sound activated skipping on start

I can't see that the setting makes any difference at all. Sound Activated Recording works any time the show volume drops below a certain point— anywhere in the performance. Are you sure they act the same? Time to back up one step. Nowhere in the post did you say what you're recording. What are you ...

Re: USB connected mic to Audacity for MAC

By my measurements, your natural noise level is in the -40 range (gets quieter at higher numbers).

To put that in perspective, sound doubles every 6. So your environment noise level doubled three times from where it needs to be.

How did that daiquiri come out?

Re: USB connected mic to Audacity for MAC

most of the rumble noise is below your natural vocal range I mean lower in pitch than your normal voice. So the only way I could force it to pass was to apply three different noise corrections. It would be grand if I didn't have to do that. Were you blending daiquiris during the performance? Koz

Re: USB connected mic to Audacity for MAC

That's what I thought. The main shortcoming of this recording system isn't the microphone. I count at least two different motors or fans in the room with you. Fortunately, most of the rumble noise is below your natural vocal range, so I went in and surgically removed them, plus applying the generic ...

Re: Non-destructive editing?

if all else failed we have the audio rushes. Exactly correct. I still have original performance archive WAV files from years ago. We are horrified at New Users who shoot something and then lay corrections, edits, filters and effects on top of it and then save the changes in place of the original fi...

Re: sound activated skipping on start

Just for grins and giggles: Turn Sound Activated Recording ON > OK. See that it works. Any quick test. If you get a two different odd experiences at the same time, then we have two different problems. Now turn it OFF > OK. Do you still have the same problem? I know what your goal is, but our goal is...
