Re: Clipping at -6db
In fact. Yes that's a problem. What happens if you take the FETHead out of the system? Dynamic (moving coil) microphones are almost impossible to break and the Zoom is a respected recorder. That leaves......... I'm perfectly clear the volume is going to go down, but does the clip point move? If you ...

Re: Overdub with Scarlett 2i2
I think the hint is the failure half-way through overdubbing. Both the Record and Playback settings have to be correct and match. No fair having playback at 44100 and record at 48000, for example. Audacity, the drivers and Windows all have to match. Another common problem is crossed settings from Yo...

Re: Chris's Dymanic Compressor
And then when you do get it to run... Do you know the story? Chris designed it so he could listen to opera in the car. It's an exceptionally well designed compressor. Current at, I think 1.2.6??? I use it to compress a podcast version of a broadcast radio show. The radio version goes through the bro...

Re: setting duration of silence generated impossible
And there in one post you have the problem with using an older version of Audacity.
It works fine on my 10.9.5 machine using Audacity 2.2.1
Has it ever worked? You can get 2.2.1 from here.

Re: USB connected mic to Audacity for MAC
There is a default general setting for music. If you can't hear it working, then you win. Too much Noise Reduction is audible as honking or talking into a wine glass or rain barrel. What were the numbers?Noise Reduction->numbers seem to adjust themselves

Re: Mono recording is recording from bother channels
There's no problem good engineering can't make worse. Statically, you don't have to reduce the jammed together level by half. If you apply a mono signal to one channel, then all options are open, but if you apply a full stereo signal, then only a portion of the Left - Right show is going to "li...

Re: Mono recording is recording from bother channels
Interesting that this is "normal". It's one of the "normals." Recording a mono show with anything but a mono adapter is inviting a conversion. I count four possibilities: Just drop the right channel, jam the two together and don't change the levels, jam the two together and drop...

Re: Isolating voice from background music
The tools work by stereo location. If you only have one soundwave or you have two but they're the same, that's the end of the story.

Re: Mono recording is recording from bother channels
That's one of the "normal" mono behaviors. The other thing you're going to notice is your Left-Only signal overloads at -6dB. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MinusSixdBClipping.jpg This leads to my opinion that if you're going to record mono, you should do it with a mono adapter. Adapte...

Re: Improving muffled talking
Did you keep the original? The sample has too much noise reduction. That's what gives it a hollow tube sound. That's permanent. We can't take effects out.
