I have to crank up my Windows 7 machine and see what it does to my mono adapter. I stopped using the WIn7 machine because the coal got so expensive.

Re: Record live + play base track
Is it a USB mixer? Which one? That's Overdubbing. Play live against a backing track and then mix them however you want in post production. You can mix as many instruments as you can play, one at a time (until the computer overloads). http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_recording_multi_track_...

Re: Unable to overdub using USB soundcard
It records one track fine (mono or stereo) Fascinating. There is a sister posting who can't get Solo to produce a mono recording into a stereo track. I suspect that's what the drivers do. I suspect without that, you either get a mono show—one blue wave—or stereo show with your microphone on the lef...

These are pictures of the left of my timeline. Does your show look like this:
Or more like this? What do those words say near the bottom of that panel?

Re: Recording both sides, but can only hear through one side
it would only record the left side That's normal. The Solo is a mono device and is designed to record into a Mono—one blue wave—performance. If you force it into a stereo show, your voice will appear on the left. the solo had a problem with ASIO. I think there are still pieces of this missing. Regu...

Re: Headroom for mastering
Select the work > Effect > Amplify: New Peak Amplitude (dB) -4 or wherever you want it to be. This is a straight, simple volume change and it will push up or down depending on where you started out. This won't affect any damage you might have if you already had clipping or other overload damage. It ...

Re: project and data folder not matching up
Do we know how far back the Save and Save Project As cross conflict goes? If you Save Project As and you save to the same show, Audacity 2.2.1 may (about 30% of the time) cause file damage.
That looks an awful lot like this complaint.

Re: intermittent background noise
learn some audio engineering There isn't a lot. I had to get techie when I listed the numbers you have to type into the blank boxes when you run the tools. And given you record in a nice, quiet room, there are only three tools. Rumble filter, general volume and overload safety. I wrote a mostly Eng...
