Re: intermittent background noise
The most normal cause of clicks is the needle hitting a cat hair on the record. I don't know of a "standard" cause of clicks past that. It's not listed in the Manual of Standard Abhorrent Noises (ASAN). What's the frequency of occurrence (that you can tell)? Can you tell there is one in th...

Re: i cant record with an external mic?
Are you singing or playing a musical instrument? You should disable the Windows voice processing. The settings are intended to help you speak to a conference or an on-line meeting. It hates music. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements There may be others,...

Re: Cannot record guitar using Behringer UM2
These are links for Behringer drivers I got from a YouTube tutorial. This is as far as I got. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg7J1jeX5to The video description calls out the 32-bit and 64-bit drivers, apparently not ASIO. Enough people had troubles with the ASIO software Behringer wrote purpose-buil...

Re: Cannot record guitar using Behringer UM2
That's what I always used to think and that's how it works on a Mac. On Win7, however: Nope. Nada. Zilch. I can't get the guitar to appear at all. Worse yet, Google assures me this is no problem, just install ASIO and you're good to go. Swell...... There is a Secret Oral Teachings of a Windows drive...

Re: Cannot record guitar using Behringer UM2
I just now couldn't make it work, either. I know there's something about sound management between Stereo and Mono. The microphone works jim-dandy, but not the instrument. You can close Audacity. In Windows. Right click the speaker lower right > Recording devices. One USB device should flash if you p...

If you don't know where your laptop's microphone is, this is a dandy time to find out.

Re: Fixing "tinny" sound
I have had tinny sound ever since Windows 10 forced the creators update on me It's not unusual for Windows to add processing and "corrections" whether you want them or not. It pays to ask about Windows processing and turn most of it off. It's highly recommended to record your work as clea...

Re: same file but different peak level in different computer
That and it's not particularly good practice to jam everything up against 0dB. Different systems may treat that value differently, particularly because most file systems can't go over that value. You never know how much damage you have, if any. Red bars in Audacity doesn't mean you have sound damage...

Re: 32 bit floating wav vs 32 bit
So 32 bit float is the way to go. To fold this back to the original question, I'm not sure saving your vinyl archive in 32-float is a good idea. The stand-alone format is not well supported and you could easily find an app that has no idea what to do with it. This is in addition to taking up massiv...
