Re: Input too high

Any ideas? None of that tells us where you plugged the guitar in. If you have one of those little USB Stick interfaces, that's not going to work. Mine for example... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/olympus_TP7Blowup.jpg Has a place for stereo headphones and a low volume, light duty mono micropho...

Re: Mystery fix!

2104 Mac Air, upgraded to High Sierra (boy, do I ever regret that) MacBook Air. So am I. A little newer. Why do you regret that? I've been avoiding the upgrade from El Capitan 10.11.6. My sister and I have similar machines and she hasn't upgraded, either. I just recently upgraded my television soft...

Re: Mystery fix!

Do you have the Mac set to show you filename extensions? That makes almost no difference when everything is working normally, but it's terrifically important when something goes wrong. Right click (or control click) a sound file > Get INFO. Scroll down to where it says: Open this type of file with: ...

Re: Another tip, or feature request - Find Next Clipping

Since your goal is entertaining production with as little distortion as possible but nobody is going to shoot you if it's a little off, you may be the customer for Chris's Compressor. This is a stand-alone show processor that can closely approximate broadcast compressors and processing. I used to re...

Re: Too much noise on the + side of the scale

That is so broken. Are you sure it's plugged all the way in? Pull it out, rub the plug with a little alcohol or Window cleaner, dry it and put it all the way in. You have an odd cross between the soundcard battery system which only goes up and the microphone sound system which goes both up and down....

but have not given it a test run yet.
Report back. 2.2.2 is designed to avoid a problem that sounds like the one you might have.

Those aren't "tracks." those are little six—second snippets of the show.

Re: Yeti microphone for Podcasting

There is a silly and completely unworkable solution, too. It's not unusual for movies to be shot with a single movie camera. First you shoot her lines and then you shoot his. Cut it together in editorial and it looks like they're having steamy, candle-lit dialog. Oh, Marcia. Oh, John. Marcia, Marcia...

Re: Yeti microphone for Podcasting

I believe a couple of mics in the right place will make a huge difference. So do I. I haven't pulled out the 3:1 rule in a while. To get any usable affect, separation between performers should be at least three times the distance between the performer and the mic. If everybody is one foot from the ...

Re: equalisation problems

That would make yours broken. Last few Audacity versions kept the last known working equalizer curve until changed. I've been using the same curve for a month without touching any of the buttons except OK. Quite a number of the tools work this way. Effect > Limiter and all its settings arrives the s...

Re: Another tip, or feature request - Find Next Clipping

How about using Soft Limiting to bring everything close to the rails without affecting the overall volume? This is the final step in the AudioBook mastering suite. Rumble Filter, Set Loudness and gently roll down (limit) all the tips that go over. People are producing paid audiobook work with those ...
