Re: Plot spectrum for noobs

I'm not sure that's the best use of the tools. You use the equalizer effect to adjust your performance to be its best. You can use Plot Spectrum to identify sound distribution, pitches, and noise relationships and where, for example, you need to put soundproofing in your studio. Spectrum peaks at 60...

Re: Spectrum Plot

I suspect this is an existing feature request. If it is, we can add your vote.

It's super difficult to compare two readings when the display keeps changing to maximize presented information.

Re: Flat Wave Profile when recording

There may have been an OS update I make the Mac notify me of updates and I let them happen when I'm ready. There's nothing quite so entertaining as trying to do production and it's a different Mac at lunch than it was at breakfast. Excellent detailed description of the computer system. What's the m...

Re: Beginner's question about room acoustics for spoken word

There may be a movie trick with your SM7b. Suspend it over your face just out of camera range. The "official goal" is 46cm up and 46cm forward. When I learned it, that was a foot and a half up and a foot and a half forward. Screen Shot 2021-03-13 at 06.35.05.png You didn't say whether you ...

Re: Beginner's question about room acoustics for spoken word

If you have a construction option, don't make the walls straight. There was a "studio" at a place where I worked which only had thin industrial carpeting on the floor and I don't remember any acoustic ceiling. Plain painted walls. But the walls weren't parallel to each other. If you were p...

Re: Recording audio with Effects/VST (e.g. Preamp/Compressor)

Is this possible?
Audacity doesn't do anything to the show during recording. There are silent-sense and timer features, but that's about it.

Re: Auto Stop

Audacity has Transport > Options > Sound Activated Recording. Also in Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording, there is a slider where you can set the volume that the recording triggers. No delay options that I know of. There is plain Timer Record where you set Audacity to record for a set time an...

Re: Skip silence during playback

Truncate Silence ... removes the concept of time
Correct. It's one of the ways Audacity is not a very good surveillance recorder. No time stamps.

You can use a surveillance system designed to do this job.

Re: 2016 Dell Laptop Condenser Mic

Was it maybe really not recorded with the LAPTOP MIC ? I have done that where I was performing a complicated recording and didn't notice the local microphone had slipped away from me in favor of the laptop. The only way I eventually caught on was in post production when some special microphone effe...

Re: General question about applying effects to audio

Maybe the first order of business would be stop using Audacity 2.3.3. The Audacity versions right around that number had file management problems and would, on occasion, damage a show. Use Audacity 2.4.2. https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/ permanently altering the track? It's good digita...
