Re: How to get ACX specs for audiobook
We can talk you through it assuming you have a voice sound file. Getting that sound file is the interesting part. There is a posting for ACX Audiobook Mastering. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=96103 You should be in the latest Audacity version (2.2.2) and you will have to ins...

Re: How to record to external device?
Will post back my results once tested. Yes, and both ends are stereo, unlike the tape machine. I haven't tried this but I believe the WS-823 connection is microphone, not line level. So you have have some interesting times adapting the volumes so everyone is happy. I recently did testing on the Oly...

Re: Midi to Wav conversion
SimpleSynth And poof. There's the piano. Can I do that on all three platforms? Can we also assume you can't go the other way? I'm pretty sure you can't do multiple instruments ... but one? Piano (01) in an echoey room should be interesting. Is there an instrument whose selected single note is not t...

Re: Distance from Micorphone.
Sing from a side and not facing the mic ? If you have trouble making high enough volume, I have found that I can announce closely (one power fist)... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PowerFistSpacing-NoScreen-500t.jpg ...or closer and place the microphone half-left instead of head on. Pointed...

Re: Normalize and Compress?
Normalizing and amplifying are the same thing. Normalize got the better name. Turn the volume up or down once per show.

Re: Remove Uhms and Ahhs?
Not that I know of. I think you're stuck with one-off editing. Most one-person shops figure out immediately what a problem this is and stop doing it while they're presenting. My particular talent is a tongue tick right before an important point. The instant you split the jobs, there's no reason for ...

Re: Midi to Wav conversion
So yes, play the MIDI on an APP of your choice and make it give you a WAV sound file. Never do production in MP3.

Re: Midi to Wav conversion
What is the meaning of that? MIDI isn't sound. MIDI is machine control. You don't record MIDI, you play MIDI on a musical instrument and record the sound that it makes. It's very much like sheet music. What most programs do is play MIDI on their own internal piano and then record the result. Two pr...

Re: Clipped wav files upon opening.
Right. This is when you plug in your headphones. Doing quality judgements in the field isn't recommended, but trying to listen on laptop speakers is useless. I have a set of earbuds I really like with tiny custom muffs that fit my ears well. They're not as good as real headphones, but they're way be...

Re: Audio problems
That's about right. The recommendation is blue soundwave peaks in the 0.5 range. Set the bouncing sound meter so it just starts changing color. -6dB to -10dB. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/AudacityRecording-650w.jpg Nobody can hear 2dB, so you're probably fine. Are you using the Yeti as a U...
