Re: Distance from Micorphone.

-20 reduces the volume of the presentation. Anything short of screaming into the microphone isn't going to need it. Most people have trouble getting high enough volume during voice recording. Glace at Audacity while you're recording and try to keep the bouncing sound meters around -6dB to -10dB (jus...

Re: I only want to delete a small duration of my voice.

It's not delete.

Select the portion to be removed and Generate Silence. Audacity should automatically make a silent slug to fit in the hole.

Re: Zoom H6 and Audacity - Basic Question

Both Windows and Macs have a device selector and volume meter. You should get that to work before you even open Audacity. Audacity gets its sound from the Operating System not the device.

Re: Normalize maximum amplitude

I have a handy conversion chart.

Click the graphic to see the whole thing.

Convert Percent to Audacity by moving the point to the left. 50% is 0.5. That's half-way which works out to 6dB. That's the only one I remember in my head.

Re: Normalization - under the hood

I did the sums for you. -1dB works out to be 89.1% which you can convert (.891) and round off to 0.9 in Audacity-speak. You can grab the bottom of the timeline and pull down to make it taller and it will actually show you that. Then all you need to do is find the one peak (up or down) which lives at...

Re: Normalization - under the hood

Normalize and Amplify are sisters. They turn the volume of the whole performance up or down to meet the criteria. Full stop. If you Normalize to -1dB for example, you should be able to find at least one place in the performance where one peak in the blue sound waves reached -1db. This can be a littl...

Re: Midi to Wav conversion

Bagpipe (109)

But the question was how to you start with a recorded bagpipe and "convert" it to its MIDI number? You have to at very minimum determine the note it's playing. It would be like determining the musical pitch of a catfight.

Did you install Skype or other chat application on your new machine? Games? Audacity does not Play Well With Others. Make sure everything else is closed and not napping in the background.

Windows 10 has a built-in sound editor. I understand the name changed. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028308/windows-how-to-use-voice-recorder A good servicing tool is to split the system into fractions and test each fraction. Find out if the microphone works with Voice Recorder. Make sur...

Re: How to get ACX specs for audiobook

Fair warning, everybody fails noise. Can you tell if your computer is running by listening? I can save you some effort. You can't do that. Air Conditioning, cooling fans, traffic noises or the refrigerator in the kitchen regularly kill new user performances. ACX would just as soon you don't use post...
