Re: Feature Request: On opening older files
I certainly don't disagree with tombstoning the old version for practical resource reasons. But, like Edlin or WordStar or Xywrite...apps can be obsolete and still do some things better than all the newer stuff.<G> It is 2.x that I suggest the change for, integrate the copy operation into 2.0, inste...

Re: Edit Meta Data; Can't clear?!
Steve, I'm done for the day but I *think* the reason that didn't work for me was that (hehe) some elf opened two copies of Audacity here, one hidden behind the other, and I suspect THAT kept the template active in both sessions. Vous parlez "oopsie" ? But I should be able to use the template to JUST...

Re: Edit Meta Data; Can't clear?!
Tried that, Steve. If I make the default blank--it overwrites the current data (i.e. track number and title) with BLANKS. I don't want a blank default, I want to get rid of any default, so the information in the label track is picked up, instead of being wiped out by blanks. Even if I delete the tag...

"As Audacity users should no longer be using Audacity 1.2.x (it's obsolete)"
Shoulda woulda coulda.<G>
Ain't obsolete yet, not until some of us figure out how to get that noise/interference problem licked. And on my "old" computer, where there's no hope the new one would run...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
Consider yourself asked.<G> It does seem to make things work better. As an alternative, i know there are ways to create and use a ramdrive under all versions of Windows, even though they're damned hard to find. Allocating some system memory to a ramdrive and using that as a buffer might be a good al...

Edit Meta Data; Can't clear?!
I was getting tired of typing the artist name and title in each file when using "export multiple" and thought, gee, a template would probably repeat all that in each file, right? Wrong, it also captures the TRACK and TRACK TITLE which I don't want to pull from a master template. So I tried clearing ...

Feature Request: On opening older files
I just opened a 1.2.6 file in 2.x and was somewhat frightened to see the message that 2.x could corrupt the older file that I should back it up first. Ah, OK, that's nice, but could we see this polished up in a future version? Like a prompt that says "I may trash the old file, shall I make a copy of...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
True, but then it would probably try to run a hundred times more often, not being smart enough to understand "No means No".
That audio cache really seems to (knock wood) be doing the trick here. Will it simply be gone in the next release? Or just taking care of itself automatically?

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
OK, thanks Gale. So far--it looks like using the cache during recording is working. So far. No, i hadn't disabled it during editting, which was mainly tagging. The audio device is a Behringer USB, uses the Vista 2006 original USB audio drivers. There is no update for these. I don't defrag in the bac...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
Tried most of that, and the priority bump helped. But some parts of that page, i.e. putting hard drivesin DMA mode, are just not relevant to a six year old Vista laptop with SATA drive. The option to use DMA instead if PIO just isn't around anymore. The DPC latency checker seems happy, too. Which le...
