Re: Sound not recording on Windows 7 (using HP laptop)
"If it was working correctly, the Audacity and the system slider for the device should change in parallel " Nifty! Thank you, once again, Gale. I find my control panel slider has 2-digit percents, i.e. I can set 55%, while the slider in Aud2 only has ten steps? Or at least, only read in single digit...

Re: Sound not recording on Windows 7 (using HP laptop)
No, it won't automatically configure. In fact, at least on mine, the USB audio comes up in MONO and you have to use the Control Panel, Sounds, Recording options to change that to stereo. Once you've set the audio in the control panel, you'll have to check in Audacity to see if you also need to set t...

Re: Redline *Lagging* the music?
No, these are not clipping lines, this is a moving "cursor", a line that leads the edge of the music.

Re: Sound not recording on Windows 7 (using HP laptop)
Stef, your "headphone input" in the laptop is probably a headphone OUTput, you can't record through it. And for about five years now, there's been a big question as to why laptop makers have almost totally dropped the LINE IN feature from laptops and only provide MIC IN and often just in mono. So as...

Redline *Lagging* the music?
Usually there's a red line "leading" the waveform when I'm recording music. But a funny thing happened this afternoon. I paused the recording, restarted (shift+rec) and afterwards the red line was *lagging* the edge of the waveform, by about two seconds. The recording seemed perfectly fine, but what...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
Hi Gale. "So you mean you enabled "Audio Cache" - and this was the first time you got drop-outs using it? " Yes, the cache was on. I'm not sure if this was the first time I got drop-outs with it on, but the first time I was SURE it was on when they happened. And, FWIW, last night I recorded a whole ...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
Oh darn. (blush)
And I threw out the bathwater right after I uploaded it. I'll get another one by tomorrow I'm sure.
I said "fenceposting" but should have said "picketfencing", apparently I forgot to caffeinate this morning too.

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
Gale- I'm uploading a slice of a recording which has wicked fenceposting in it. I turned on 2.x, set the priority to HIGH, engaged the audio buffer, hit RECORD and started the tape, which is transferring in via Behringer 222. The computer is running no other programs, the antivirus (MSE) isn't doing...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?
Gale, while I'm looking for solutions... If I use 1.2.6 to create 44k/16bit WAV files, or use 2.x to make the same files, can I assume that the files "recorded" and exported from either version will be of identical quality? Or if a file is made in 1.2.6 and then opened and tagged, exported, etc. fro...

Re: Feature Request: On opening older files
I can see your point but also expect that the donkey could make some assumptions and use some existing answers. i.e. where to put some files? Put 'em where the original file is, or put 'em in the temp folder. Look at the user preferences to figure it out, and if there's no room--ask the user where t...
