File conversions /vs/ quality?

Let's say I'm using 2.x with my files set for no dither, 44k "CD" quality stereo, with the general goal of creating WAV files as masters, and MP3 VBR-2 files for use on noisier portable devices. And after a while, I get rid of the Audacity files themselves, to save space. Then I decide, gee, there a...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?

No, I have searches disabled. I defragment manually and infrequently, since NTFS does some of that by itself. And this drive was installed by up-cloning a smaller one a few weeks ago, so it is pretty much defragmented to start with. No encrypttion, no compression, no monitoring by any sync software ...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?

1 is set to the default, i.e. a temp folder in the user directory on the c: drive, which has lots of other things on it but 50GB free as well. 2 is set to the wide open spaces on the d: partition, which is on the same physical drive (A WD Scorpio Blue SATA3 on a SATA1 internal bus) butD: is the libr...

Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?

Gale, I'd swear Audacity 2.x has a problem with epileptic fits. Over the last few days I've kept trying to figure out how, or hwne, or why, it does the picket-fencing noises and can't find a single common factor. Which I know makes it damned hard to troubleshoot. I've had the computer running six ta...

Re: Sound not recording on Windows 7 (using HP laptop)

" I dont want to record through the speakers of the laptop if this is what you mean, but to record through the laptop itself for better quality. " You never record "through" speakers, there's no way to do that. All that speakers do is let you LISTEN to something that is being recorded or played else...

Re: Sound not recording on Windows 7 (using HP laptop)

Steffi, what is the SOURCE for your music? A tape player, stereo amp, what? Why are you putting that into a mixer, what are you mixing down? Can the mixer be omitted? Normally you would put your source into the input on the USB adaptor and ignore any monitor/output there. Then the USB adaptor feeds ...

Re: Audacity 2.0.1 "About" not updated?

Thanks, Steve. A reinstall cleaned that up. I must have slipped the mouse and clicked "one line down" when I thought I installed 2.0.1 the last time.

Re: Audacity 2.0.1 "About" not updated?

Uninstall? Nope. Most installers just overwrite as needed, and since this should be a new .EXE file...it should have overwritten. Heck, even my smartphone apps know how to automatically uninstall the old version if an update needs that. The download page didn't mention an uninstall being needed. use...

Audacity 2.0.1 "About" not updated?

I know I just dl'd and installed 2.0.1 over my 2.0.0 installation, but the "About" tab says it is still 2.0.0.

Re: Label Editor Out to Lunch?

Gale, don't tell anyone but my security cameras are just dummies, they don't really record what happens at my computer. I know I typed ^B to create the label and the started typing into it. In this case one digit first to number it, THEN a space and the first letter. Whether I had just previously us...
