Gentlest way to squeeze a CD?
So, normally I would just save an old recording to lossless WAV format and let MediaPlayer burn it to a CD. But today, my WAV files total 777MB in size, and I need to get that down to 650MB to squeeze it on one CD. What's the best way to do this? I'm in 44k/16bit format, I suppose I could drop to 22...

Re: Suggestions for a new cassette deck? (Really.)
Steve, that's one of the reasons why I said up front I'M NOT INTERESTED IN USED DECKS. Knowing that TEAC/TASCAM made some good decks, and then made some not so good decks (ROFL) really adds nothing, unless someone specifies how to tell which deck falls into the good or bad group. FIxing the old Nak ...

Re: audacity speeds up when i record!
Probably unrelated--but on a Vista machine I had some mpeg clips run at "chipmunk" speed last week. No idea why, they were downloads & I just deleted them figuring they were made improperly. Still...chipmunks is chipmunks, no?

Re: Batch convert WAV to MP3?
Thanks, Steve. Apparently that's another bonus in Vista: You can edit or group edit the MP3 tags by turning on the "details" view in the folder. (As if that's enough reason to go run out and buy a hypochondriac OS. You know, the kind of OS that sneezes and then immediately requires a hospital stay t...

Re: Batch convert WAV to MP3?
I know it CAN be done from the OS level, I was looking to do it from within Audacity (preferably) or else for specific recommendations for tools. Google produces lots of paid placements whenever you look for software, and then other vendors know how to stack their own listings with tools like bogus ...

Re: lame_enc.dll
Thanks, I'll take a look at Lamedrop. Meanwhile, dbpoweramp looks like a nice option. I'm not sure I'll buy it--but the batch converter will make short work out of everything I already have.<G> Without getting supercritical the "standard" VBR settings seem perfectly useful for mobile music, and way ...

Re: lame_enc.dll
Steve, it looks like the sourceforge link is a 3.97 version while other sites claim to have a 3.98 or later. Other versions somehow bogus? Or??? Which also leads me to ask, I'm still using the 1.2.x stable Windows build and that only appears to support CBR encoding. Is VBR supported in the beta? Or ...

Batch convert WAV to MP3?
This isn't an Audacity problem per se, but while I've been converting tapes to digital (128-mp3 for the phone, lossless WAV for the archive and home) I also decided to add in my CD's to the master library. So I've got some folders with just WAV files in them, and I'd like to batch convert these to M...

Re: seal usb turntable
Try enabling "software playthrough" in Audacity, that should let you hear what is being recorded.
If it doesn't--your OS and hardware might be part of the issue as well, post what they are too.
