Re: File formats & data loss?
Steve- "For "the best possible" sound quality, export your track as 24 or 32 bit in a lossless format (WAV or FLAC). 24 bit Flac is not available in Audacity 1.2, you would need to upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 for that option." AH, OK then. At the risk of crossing posts (vs a 1.3x thread) isn't upgrad...

Re: Exporting to a WAV file
gk, Nero might be complaining for a good reason. If you have converted 10 cuts, one standard LP, to WAV format and they are each 300+MB in size, that would be a total of 3000MB and Nero would be right--that ain't gonna fit on one CD no matter how you try to do it. Either you have produced the wrong ...

Re: Digital "jukebox" to feed the analog stereo?
Guys, you misread me. Kiz, that link is to sound card devices, all of which still require using a whole computer with them. I don't want to dedicate or tie a whole computer to the stereo, unless that's a last resort. Steve, that streaming gizmo is very nice but it is only half of what I need. Sure, ...

Re: 16 v 24 bit noise floor
AH! Enlightening. So the programming "toolkit" is the problem here. Interesting, does that apply only to version 1.3x? I thought 24-bit was available for 1.2x under Windows? (I know, we're in the 1.3x section!<G>)

Re: 16 v 24 bit noise floor
Steve- Why should 24-bit audio support be a problem in Vista, or Win7? Supposedly: "Windows Vista features a completely re-written audio stack designed to provide low-latency 32-bit floating point audio, higher-quality digital signal processing, bit-for-bit sample level accuracy, up to 144dB of dyna...

Digital "jukebox" to feed the analog stereo?
As I get my music migrated over to all digital and start to consider tossing (not really) all the old LPs and metal tapes and hooking up the stereo to the digital stuff, I'm trying to get a grip on how to make sure the "digital source" that goes into the analog stereo, will be high quality. Or what ...

File formats & data loss?
I'm wondering, if I start by recording an LP with Audacity as CD-quality .AUP files, and then export the tracks as CD-quality .WAV files, Can I throw out the .AUP files? Not so fast.<G> I ask because in the future I might want to re-edit the music, clean up clicks and pops, etc. and if I do that wor...

Re: Exporting to a WAV file
What Koz said. If each of the ten cuts from the LP is 310MB in size--you are doing something wrong. CD quality audio just isn't that large a file for normal album cuts. It should run typically 30-70MB per cut. I'm wondering if maybe you exported the whole album, not just each track, to each WAV file??

Re: Problem recording from vinyl
Romo, you're not the only guy to have problems with a Creative sound card. The card in my desktop manufactured its own interference noises. The slot card for my laptop simply wouldn't work (in Vista) using the drivers supplied by Creative, with the instructions they supplied. Lots of folks have lost...

Re: labeling tracks
When you are recording from LP or tape, the silence finder has limited use. Basically you are going to have to listen to the recording, and look at the display, and manually place a label for each track. In theory there is a standard of several seconds of dead flat silence between tracks, but many g...
