Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac
It is getting clearer and clearer to me. Audacity's default sample format is 32 bit float. Is the default setting in Audacity 44100 Hz and should it be maintained? I don't recall changing anything in Audacity, but I don't see a reset to default option either. Is there one? What advantages/disadvanta...

Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac
This has all been very useful for me, if a bit tedious for all of you. Thank you. Just one last bit of confusion on my part: if 32-bit float is the recommended setting for Audacity to record, but it isn't available as a setting on Mac, does one just proceed, or can one only choose a sample rate that...

Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac
I hope I haven't been abandoned here. From my previous ramblings did emerge at least a couple of basic questions that someone can no doubt answer: do you change the Mac Input settings or not, regardless of the Audacity recording settings chosen? And what would those recommended Audacity settings be?...

Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac
Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa: I have yet to try anything on 1.3.5. But perhaps some answers to my mistakes. It has been some time ago that I had the problem with 1.3.3 so I may not be able to answer Leland's questions adequately. After this event I just stuck to 44100 Hz 2-ch 16 bit for all my projec...

Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac
Sorry for lack of clarity: 1. GaleAndrews is right that the problem is well documented (see that post above). 2. My goals: I am digitizing, and trying to improve the sound quality of very degraded and old audio cassettes of many of my own compositions and performances from my University Career. I am...

"theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac
I know that in the past there was a chance that Audacity would "steal" the internal Mac audio output settings, making Audacity the only program that would play music. Nothing from ITunes or VLC or anything. In the stable version of Audacity this could be prevented by checking a box to avoid that pro...

Re: To update or not to update, that is the question!
For what it is worth, as an under informed member of this forum, I am using the big Intel running OS X 10.5.4.... as Leopard as it gets, so far. I have yet to answer my own question about trying the new beta, but as I am not in the middle of any projects, I may embolden myself to try it.

Re: To update or not to update, that is the question!
I do think I could write an intelligible instruction book, if only I knew the instructions myself. To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To...
