I beleive it was inserting the "Lame library" and also the mention in one of the posts that i cld bypass "Lame" in exporting files, or, bearing in mind that i for now just wanted to get these files (particularly the compilations) onto my hard drive and was not for now concerned about editing etc. so...

I downloaded Audacity v.1.3.5 and have Libmp3lame-3.97 in ' documents'. Did a bit of recording and imported the raw data file and was converting or did convert it to mp3 when i got a popup "Could not open MP3 encoding library". I have 700 audio cassette tapes, some of which are compilations on 1 or 2 hr. tapes. I wld like to put a 100 or so tapes into WMP11 as MP3s (with Vista o/s) using a Walkman with a mini-stereo audio cable from the Walkman to the 'Line-In' on my embedded speaker and using Audacity as the software.
