Can you confirm if WMP11 is doing things the same way? Or not?
I don't have WMP11 so I can't confirm it. Since MT has free 14 trial you can check it yourself.

I have WMP 12 on Win 7 and it indeed writes RIFF INFO LIST tags into wav files. These INFO tags are the standard "native metadata" of wav.
