Re: Wish List: Find Maximum
Thanks for the Find Max plug-in. I'll test it out. Because Audacity was lacking a Find Max and a Match Volume, I do most of my audio work in Audition now. But Audacity is so easy to use I still jump into it regularly.

Change speed during or after transfer to digital?
I am digitising cassette recordings made on normal-speed cassette players and also on a variety of double-speed Tascam units. Speed variation is normally not a problem, i.e not noticeable, but there are some cassettes where the playback speed is obviously not right, caused either by a change in deck...

Re: Can Audacity work with linked files?
Bill, you convinced me about FLAC. Now I'll spend a few days and go back through all my recordings, reassemble them to 4-Track (from 2 x stereo) and use Max to convert them to FLAC. The recordings are mostly soundtracks from audio-visuals I produced in the 1980s and 1990s (two tracks of music, one c...

Re: Can Audacity work with linked files?
Thanks for the suggestions, Bill. Pity about not being able to link to stereo Apple Lossless. I should add that my Audacity can open stereo Apple Lossless files correctly, but not the multitrack SoundStudio versions. When I open a three-track Apple Lossless file in Audacity, all three tracks are the...

Can Audacity work with linked files?
I have transferred my Tascam 4-track tapes to digital and am in the process of saving them as two files each: as two stereo tracks in Apple Lossless format. That way I save space, and in future when I want to edit the files they can be opened by other audio software, and not just Audacity. I haven't...

Re: Can Audacity normalize during export?
Thanks, Bill, for the workflow. Worked fine. I was not aware of the Mix/Render capability. Is that how the pro applications get over the problem of multitrack clipping? Now for some more understanding: why does this method work in 32-bit and not 16-bit? Where does the extra headroom come from? Is it...

Can Audacity normalize during export?
I have been concerned about Aiff exports from Audacity. In the previous versions, and the latest, I was unable to find any option for normalizing an export that includes pans. GarageBand, for instance, has an "Auto Normalize" option for exports that, I think, normalizes to 0dB after all pans are tak...

Wish List: Find Maximum
It was suggested by a poster in another thread of mine, that I post my request here. The original thread is at: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=55155&p=136576#p136576 I have pasted the important parts below: A Find Maximum would be very useful. Here's why, and below is a suggestio...

Re: Find Maximum and other suggestions
Thanks for the responses. Yes, I've just tried them and Command 1 & 2 work as zooms (though Command + would be more consistent), and there is a Home key on my iMac which takes the cursor back to the start. So two slight inconveniences are fixed. I'll try the plug-ins suggested, but I still think a m...

Find Maximum and other suggestions
Suggestion 1 The Mac version should have a keyboard shortcut, Command-Plus, common to a lot of Mac software, that zooms in to the waveform window. Suggestion 2 There should be a small space at the start of the waveform window so the user can click there and know that they have selected the start, s...
