I think everything has changed because I have just installed a new flatscreen monitor, with a totally different resolution than the previous monitor.

The bits at the top of the screen, like the input bar and the volume and recording levels bar are in different places than normal.
The volume level used to be on the left, now it's on the right.

I use XP Home. I made a backing track, using Band-In-A-Box, and recorded into Audacity by streaming it while it played on BIAB. Nothing new there to what I have done dozens of times.
