Well, that was embarrassingly easy. There was no need to upgrade, and all it took was the change to playback devices, under "preferences."

Monitoring while recording new track with mic
Hello, I record through a Shure SM58 mic with a X2U USB connector. The file will not playback audibly, unless the USB is unplugged. My OS is Windows Vista. I would like to be able to record a new vocal track over my existing guitar track, while monitoring through headphones, but all I get is silence...
