Re: New To Audacity And Need Help

Download the latest version (3.0.2) from fosshub . If your turntable came with an instruction manual and Audacity both may be out-of-date. There are also out-of-date YouTube videos. These aren't "official". The Audacity team doesn't make official videos. The user manual and help files that you get w...

Re: Unable to get stereo on mic input

I'm a Windows guy so I can't help with your setup... One microphone is mono.* ;) If you want to record stereo you need one mic for the left and another for the right. A true-mono file will play through both speakers. If you have one silent-side, you can kill the silent channel and make a mono file o...

Re: Soundblaster use

I'm surprised because most "consumer" USB audio devices are "class compliant" which means they work with the standard Microsoft-supplied drivers. What are you recording? You might try a USB microphone (or USB headset). There are some very good USB "podcast mics" or for nearly professional quality yo...

Re: Recording randomly stops

I am recording sermons through a usb port to a soundboard. Maybe a bad USB cable or flaky connection? If it's a laptop try recording from the built-in microphone to see if that's reliable. Or if it's a desktop computer plug something into the soundcard. :( Computers are unreliable, especially if it...

Re: Huffmann data overrun

I am then able to save as .mp3 for further processing. Any "further processing" should be done before you export to MP3. If you want to save a temporary/intermediate file, save as WAV. As you may know, MP3 is lossy compression. Audacity (and all "regular" audio editors) decompress the file so when ...

Re: Editing stored names of artists, year, genre, etc.

I use MP3Tag . It works with most formats, not just MP3. Or there are other "metadata" or "tagging" applications. MP3Tag supports album artwork (audacity does not). And, you canselect a whole folder or several files at once to edit the common information all at once. You can do it in Audacity but Au...

Re: Mastering

If you open the .NY file in notepad you'll see a comment with the version. I believe the latest is version 4. But... I thought the current recommendation is to us Loudness Normalization with the RMS option.... Loudness Normalization is a built-in effect and it doesn't have it's own version number. a...

Re: Loud buzzing when transferring from standalone cassette recorder

Is it possible the buzz is on tapes? Are they homemade tapes? Does the buzz continue when the tape is paused? I have to use the "Ear" output to plug in a cable to the PC (Windows 10). I tried to hook it up to the aux/Line In input and I got loud buzzing. Tried to hook it up to the mic and same thing...

Re: Clipping

I carry a Tascam DR40. That's better than nothing. Unless you have some special requirements it should be fine and it's probably better than lots of things! There's no fan making noise and compared to a computer there are not as many things to mess-up. It could be GREAT in a soundproof studio! For ...

Re: Student turned in aup3 file, is it possible to convert?

What version of Audacity are you running? AUP3 is new starting with version 3.0.0.

If you don't NEED an Audacity project file, ask the student to turn-in a regular audio file (MP3 or WAV, etc.).
