Re: Sliding Stretch

Is is possible to convert the files back to the original format (440Hz) instead of overwriting or 'adding' on top of the initial conversion? I basically want a do-over with the original file. You didn't save a copy of the original file? More processing will only make the distortion/artifacts worse....

Re: lower volume under percentage

There is a dB formula* but perceived loudness is more complicated. Audacity has Loudness Normalization which can be used to match the volume of two or more tracks but it can be tricky because you can end-up pushing the peaks into clipping (distortion). With dialog or music, a file that peaks at 0dB ...

Re: ACX Requirements sound horrible

If you follow the Recommended Audiobook Mastering Procedure the audio quality/character should not be affected very little. RMS normalization can push your levels into (potential) clipping (distortion). You can clip your DAC but Audacity itself doesn't clip. If you're not clipping, RMS normalization...

Re: Recording Levels

Are the levels too high or too low? If they are too high and clipping (distorting) that's a problem. If the levels are low, that's probably OK. Digital recording levels are not critical (as long as you avoid clipping). You can boost the volume digitally after recording? If the levels are too high, w...

Re: Cannot import mp4 file because ffmpeg fails

X:\" is a portable hard drive where I keep lots of audio. Its a toshiba 3TB drive. "Just for fun", try copying the file to your main hard drive. As-of 3.0.0, the new Audacity unified database project format doesn't support FAT-formatted drives. There's a (related?) bug when opening regular audio/vi...

Re: Converting cassettes to digital

I have cable going into the blue line port for the PC out to the headphones jack on the tape deck. That's correct, except the blue connection is a line- input. ;) The headphone output from the tape deck is OK but if this is a regular "component" type tape deck the RCA line-outputs should also work ...

Re: plays both windows; i only want one

If you Open two files you normally get two separate Windows that play separately. If you Import two files they normally open in the same Window and they mix when you play or when you export to a new file. There is a mute button to the left of the tracks if you want to silence one of them. So... What...

Re: Create Harmonies for Vocals

There are actual harmonizer plug-ins (you can Google) so you shouldn't have to use basic pitch-shifting or manual "tricks". But I've never tried one and I don't know what works with Audacity.

Re: Annoying Gaps

Audacity generally under 30% and Activity Monitor generally under 2%. I don't know how to solve this, but the overall percentage doesn't tell the whole story... If some application, process, or driver, "hogs" the system for a few milliseconds too long, you get buffer overflow and a dropout/glitch. ...

Re: Bass LOW - DJ Recordings

This is starting to look like an iRig problem, but they are not cheap
Maybe not... Make sure both Windows and Audacity are configured for stereo.

But... That doesn't explain why streaming is working OK or the lack of bass...
