I have done a few limited tests and so far it seems to get the stereo tracks correct. But I was only testing short files.
Not sure how this is all going to work on 5 gigs of data.
One does have to be careful to sort the files the correct direction.

Re: .AU files should be named sequentially (Audacity crashed
But why not simply use xplorer2 as per the instructions on http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recovering_crashes_manually.html? Because I wasn't aware of it. Also, I was concerned about the stereo separation problem. Also is your USB drive formatted with FAT32 or NTFS? Usually USB drives are FAT3...

Re: .AU files should be named sequentially (Audacity crashed
Well you say there was no disk problem, but how do you know? Windows reported a problem. You may want to do a SMART check: http://superuser.com/questions/154337/util-to-check-external-usb-drive-health . A disk problem is unlikely because the crash happens almost every time I cancel a long running s...

Re: .AU files should be named sequentially (Audacity crashed
All the programming talent will be working on the Unitary File Format. Save a one file Project instead of the current system of XML text files, _DATA folders full of hierarchical directories, snippets and graphic files, etc., etc. The goal is a single "photoshop" file which opens up with all your l...

Re: .AU files should be named sequentially (Audacity crashed
Why? Is it designed to make recovery difficult? It's designed to do exactly what it did. Recover the project automatically. Except automatic recovery doesn't always work. Perfectly true, rejiggering the filenames from the earlier version of Audacity had the perverse effect of making manual recovery...

.AU files should be named sequentially (Audacity crashed)
So Audacity crashed after I just completed a 4 hour recording. More than a little annoying. I opened it up and selected "Yes" to recover. It recovered okay and I went ahead and hit save. But while it was saving, I realized I was saving to the wrong disk drive and hit "cancel" which caused Audacity t...

Re: Audacity sometimes records at wrong speed
Yes you could. In Audacity, Transport > Software Playthrough (on/off). This will play the recording through your computer playback device. Are you recording a high quality sound like music, or is this something like a walkie talkie radio? If it's music, then headphones out of the radio to line-in o...

Re: Audacity sometimes records at wrong speed
I am recording from a physical radio. Does this radio have a headphones output? Does your computer have a line-in port (blue)? If so you may be able to connect the radio to the line-in and record from line-in. Yes, but then I couldn't listen to the output. Try rebooting the computer. You can avoid ...

Re: Audacity sometimes records at wrong speed
OK. I'm building this in my head. You play a web radio performance to your speakers and then you make Audacity record from the web cam and that's your show. You have to be very quiet so the room noise doesn't get into the capture, right? There are other ways to do that, but if your computer is fast...

Re: Audacity sometimes records at wrong speed
Which one? I should have been more specific. It is actually built into a logitech webcam (sorry don't know exact model) You're a lot closer than we are. What's common about the successes and failures? What did you change? I don't really know. Infact, I just tried it and it recorded properly. In all...
