I'm using a usb record player from Innovative Technologies. Your information has solved a lot of problems for me, Thank you very much. The sliders are a little baffeling but livable.

First off I have no control over the record or playback Volume. Second it only gives me three options for play back and recording they are Realtek AC97 Audio, USB audio Codec and Microsoft Sound Mapper -(input and output) I have to set input to Realtek AC97 Audio and the output to USB Audio Codec.
