The append record function in Audacity Beta does the job perfectly.

How to record onto an existing track?
I'm recording myself reading a play. Every time I stop, then start recording again, Audacity creates a new track but I don't want it to do that. I want to be able to specify a track and add my recording on the end of it. The idea is that the dialogue for person A will be on track 1 and the dialogue ...
