Thanks Koz but shift + R just adds to the end. I want to be able to overwrite my audio in the middle of the track without audacity creating a new track. I can select audio in the middle of the track and delete the audio from that part of the track but i want to continue recording from the middle of ...

Recording - prevent new tracks everytime i hit record
Is there a way to prevent a new track from creating itself everytime i hit record? I would like to use audacity to record some of my speeches by hitting record -> and then sometimes "rewinding" in the middle of the track in case i make a mistake, and then record over my mistake without it ...
